About the vacancy

Are you an aspiring chef looking to learn the ropes in a busy kitchen preparing fresh food? If you are interested in starting a career as a commis chef, are passionate about cooking and are keen to learn new skills then we’d like to meet you! This is an excellent opportunity for an apprentice chef to join our busy kitchen team.Under the full support of the Head Chef, you will help to drive the performance of the kitchen. You will be responsible for ensuring that quality, service, standards and legal compliance are met and exceeded and consistently deliver high quality food. Alongside this, the successful applicant will work towards gaining a Level 2 Commis Chef Qualification.As a Level 2 commis chef apprentice, you will be learning and developing new and existing skills to complete various modules for your apprenticeship course. Your day to day duties will include:Preparing and fresh food including meat, fish, poultry, vegetables and sauces and supporting the running of a section in a busy kitchen. Helping to maintain a clean and safe environment and complying with health and safety legislation

Qualifications required: 
GCSE passes in Maths and English are preferred but not essential.
Personal qualities: 
Flexibility and ability to work under pressure. We are generally looking for high energy individuals who wish to learn and develop surrounded by fresh food. Those who are unafraid of hard work and happy to work with large volume
Things to consider: 
Kitchens can be hot and fast paced environments, Please check your travel commitments, some of our shifts start at 7:30am and some will finish at 11pm. That said, as an apprentice you can apply for an NUS Apprentice Extra card allowing you discounts on travel amongst other thingsWe are open evenings and weekends and expect our team to be available at these peak times too
Skills required: 
You are happy to work and receive direction from the Head and Sous chefs and are able to follow instructionsYou'll demonstrate attention to detail, be passionate about cooking and be obsessed with quality all whilst remaining calm under pressureReliable, trustworthy, always turning up for shifts and trainingYou will love working as part of a team and you will have great communication skills
Future prospects: 
Full time working as a line chef at the Crown and Treaty or one of our sister pubs.
