Danielle Beaumont - Deputy Manager at Chiquito Durham

Back to Success Stories

Danielle Beaumont has worked at Chiquito since 2012, having started as a server while completing her Masters degree and worked her way up to her current position as Deputy Manager. However, having felt a lack of confidence when it came to progressing further in her career, Danielle enrolled on a Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor apprenticeship with HIT Training for which she achieved a distinction.

As Deputy Manager at Chiquito in Durham, Danielle is responsible for the general day-to-day running of the restaurant’s shifts and leading the wider team. She is also very much involved with recruitment and training, overseeing the development of both the front and back of house teams, to ensure they’re up to date on their risk assessments and safe working practices. In addition to this, Danielle also undertakes stock counting, completes the necessary paperwork and contributes to the P&L to ensure overheads are being managed.

With the opportunity to progress to a Deputy Manager position on the horizon, Danielle started a Level 3 Hospitality Supervisor apprenticeship in October 2017, to further her development, confidence and knowledge to enable her to pursue this role. Now, having completed the level 3 to the highest standard, she is looking to start the Level 4 Hospitality Manager course as soon as she can.

When speaking about her apprenticeship, Danielle said: “Without this experience and the support of both my employer and HIT Training, I would not have gained the confidence and knowledge to be able to aim towards becoming a Deputy Manager of the restaurant. My apprenticeship has taught me so much, such as knowing which tasks to delegate to the team and what to take on myself, how to understand and work on more business-related tasks, and how to overcome any problems that may arise in the most effective manner.

“Although I was just about to become Assistant Manager when I started my apprenticeship, I believe I lacked some of the self-assurance and training needed to successfully carryout management-level tasks. By completing the apprenticeship, I have been encouraged to increase my experience and understanding and now have the self-belief that I can do the job well. To this day, I do not believe I would be in my current role without studying for an apprenticeship.”

Throughout her apprenticeship, Danielle has worked closely with her trainer and mentor from HIT Training, Candice Craven, who has conducted monthly check-in sessions with Danielle and provided her with support and advice throughout her qualification. Danielle praised this help from Candice, saying: “Candice has been fantastic! She has been so supportive in lots of different areas within the course that I’ve either had issues with or may have simply needed additional help.

“My employer The Restaurant Group has also been incredibly encouraging. As a brand, Chiquito encourages you to progress in your chosen career and my General Manager Chris Lidgerton has been my biggest supporter – he has really championed my progression in the restaurant.”

Danielle’s advice to others considering an apprenticeship is: “DO IT! It is one of the best things that I have ever done. I’ve not only gained a qualification but it has also been invaluable in my personal and professional development. This improvement is not just going to be beneficial for myself but also for the team I work with.

“I have totally exceeded the objectives I set myself at the start of the training. Even a year ago I could never have seen myself in the position I am in now – becoming a Deputy Manager in the second highest taking restaurant in the brand!”
