The Grand unveils HIT Training as new apprenticeship provider

Posted on 29 January, 2020

THE GRAND, FOLKESTONE – winner of the “Best Employer” award in the Springboard Awards for Excellence – is delighted to announce a partnership with HIT TRAINING and the SODEXO UK APPRENTICESHIP TEAM that will see up to 20 apprentices develop within the business.

The Grand believes that the key to success is the development of our people. Key to the development of our people will be HIT Training who will lead our team through a diverse range of apprenticeships in hospitality, delivering structured career progression in various sectors including Food Service, Hospitality Management, Administration and Leadership. As a mark of a successful partnership HIT Training will be showcasing a group of The Grands’ apprentices in Parliament during National Apprenticeship Week.

Speaking of the partnership, Jill Whittaker FIH, Managing Director at HIT Training, said:Helping develop and support employers and learners within the hospitality sector is what we do, and I am absolutely delighted that Robert and the award-winning Grand in Folkestone is bringing their apprentices to HIT, the No.1 Hospitality Training Company in the UK. The team at HIT can’t wait to support these fantastic people.”

Speaking of working with The Grand and HIT Training, Sue Davison, Programme Manager at Sodexo UK Apprenticeship Team said:Having met with Robert, The Grand’s ambitions fitted extremely well with our award-winning Apprenticeship strategy. The Apprenticeship Levy gifting allows us to support likeminded employers and providers not only through funding but through forging best practice partnerships and learner experience

Speaking of working with Sodexo and HIT Training, Robert Richardson FIH, General Manager at The Grand said:One of the most important tasks of any employer is the development of their team. Having led The Grand to becoming an industry recognised award-winning employer was no small task and I want to work with companies that value our business as much as we do. With that in mind both HIT and Sodexo are a natural fit; they are both committed and dedicated to the development of my team, and their enthusiasm for our business is second to none.

McMullen’s chose HIT as its sole external provider for Apprenticeships and vocational qualifications in early 2015 and since then we have found them a pleasure to work with.  Their expertise in this sector is superior and they have proven to be a professional and supportive partner who have a passion for learning and development, which matches our own organisation.

Amanda Walden – Training & Recruitment Manager, McMullen's

Encouraging our staff to improve their skills set and supporting them through apprenticeships and training programmes underlines our commitment to help them further develop their own careers. Offering the Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship also gives the Brend Group a point of difference which I’m convinced will help attract new members of staff in the future.

Andrew Mosedale - Group HR Manager, Brend Hotels

Our partnership with HIT has certainly made recruitment much easier in a very difficult labour market and gives us a point of difference in an increasingly competitive environment.  Kew Green has also benefited enormously from well trained, skilled and competent staff who contribute significantly to the ever improving and high levels of customer experience that our guests expect and deserve.

Andrew Tregenza - HR Business Partner, Kew Green Hotels

Apprenticeships allow us to give people a great opportunity to develop a career with us and learn a skill or trade that will accompany them throughout their career and life. We see progression to the Level 4 qualification as key to our strategy of providing development at all stages of an employee’s career with Harrison.

Alex Taylor - Training Manager, Harrison Catering Services

There is a shortage of skilled chefs within in our industry at present and any organisation that truly believes in the value of training and development of bright future stars will enable themselves to be in a strong position for the years ahead. Investing in smart training and development is at the heart of what we do within WSH, so it has been refreshing to work alongside HIT within our Baxterstorey Chef Academy.

Rik Razza - Head of Chef Development, BaxterStorey
