HIT Management Academy

The HIT Management Academy is a highly practical experiential programme for supervisory and management level apprentices. It enhances their knowledge, skills and behaviours and develops their talents in key value-adding areas.

Applying our proven expertise in business and management, we use an innovative, workshop-based immersive training model to hone apprentices’ skills and build their capabilities as leaders. This brings vital commercial benefits for employers too.

What the Management Academy offers

Apprentices spend time with industry experts, supercharging their knowledge and skills in important business areas. We offer a wide range of workshops which we then tailor to the client’s individual critical success factors and the apprenticeship requirements, providing a bespoke learning experience.

Here are some of the most popular workshops:

  • Legislation - exploring the various legislative requirements to maintain industry compliance and looking at consequences for both the manager and the business

  • Managing Teams – providing the tools to understand your team and the individuals within it, covering motivation, communication, equality and diversity

  • Finance Management – looking at how governance and compliance impact financial management, and budgeting skills

  • Project Management – exploring the key stages of a project lifecycle and the roles within a project, along with risk management

  • Operational Management – focusing on how operational plans relate to business strategy, implementing plans, balancing resources and the impact of change and technology

  • Customer Service and Communication – looking at the need for customer service policies, branding and customer profiling, as well as what affects customer loyalty

  • Building Relationships and Communication – exploring how to manage customer and stakeholder relationships, cross team working and the many different forms of communication

  • Problem Solving and Decision Making – looking at a variety of workplace problems, giving scenarios and choices, working collaboratively to reach a decision

  • Market Analysis and Business Strategy – exploring the market in which the business operates, looking at the tools and research available, macro and micro environmental factors

  • Recruitment and Selection – focusing on the value of a people strategy and succession planning, looking at job descriptions, people specifications, recruitment tools and risk management

  • Change Management - understanding how to support and manage teams through times of change, looking at reasons for change and change management models

Introduction Workshop

Each academy starts with an introductory workshop which involves a brief summary of the variety of topics within the selected apprenticeship standard. We evaluate the importance of the business’s mission, vision, values and targets in moving the business forward.

We also work with individuals to create a Personal Development Plan with SMART targets and discuss the importance of this for themselves and their business.

Collaboration with employer partners

We work closely with business people in many sectors to build programmes around the unique needs of their business, boosting ROI and adding real commercial value. Our workshops and apprenticeships are always tailored to the employer’s business, and are flexible enough to adapt as situations change.

Experiential Learning

Adults learn best when they are actively participating in their learning; experiential learning techniques allow adults to Do – Reflect – Learn from the experience, and actively try out what they have learned.

The Management Academy offers a full suite of learning resources including individual online learning through our learning management system STAR, and meetings with the apprentice’s training consultants. We also run a selection of one day experiential workshops interspersed with virtual interactive workshops to ensure that learning is consolidated.

In keeping with our market leading position, we continually explore new ways to add value to the services we deliver. Creative reciprocal relationships with a range of industry experts play a significant part in this. These experts feature in:

  • Mentor Me scheme, the largest hospitality management mentor scheme in the UK

Who Can Apply?

The Management Academy workshops are open to apprentices embarking on a wide range of managerial apprenticeships across many sectors including Hospitality Supervisor, Hospitality Manager, Retail Manager, Team Leader and Operations / Departmental Manager.

For national or regional hotel, restaurant, contract catering, coffee shop or gastro pub chains, a bespoke programme can be organised to meet the specific skills requirements of that organisation.
