This course takes a minimum of 18 months to complete.

What is Operations Manager Apprenticeship?

An operations manager is responsible for looking after projects, teams or departments. Often reporting to a senior manager or business owner, operations or department managers work across all sectors of industry and in all business sizes.

Also known as regional managers or division managers, operations managers are responsible for looking after teams, dealing with change, managing budgets, resources, developing talent and coaching or mentoring.

An operations manager’s responsibilities can include:

  • Setting KPIs and monitoring performance
  • Creating plans for sales and marketing
  • Managing budgets, making contingency plans
  • Motivating and leading multiple teams
  • Communicating effectively through every channel
  • Analysing data and producing reports
  • Nurturing talent within teams.

Employers will set their own entry requirements in order to start this apprenticeship.

Progression

On completion of the Operations Manager Level 5 apprenticeship, apprentices can register as full members with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). After 3 years of management experience, this can progress to Chartered Manager status with the CMI.

Functional skills

Apprentices will need to pass maths and English Functional Skills level 2 during their apprenticeship.

End assessment

The End Point Assessment (EPA) for the Operations or Department Manager Apprenticeship includes:

  • Professional discussion, underpinned by a portfolio of evidence
  • Project proposal, presentation and questioning.

Professional support

Every apprentice is assigned a personal EDN Vocational Trainer who will meet with the apprentice face-to-face and online throughout the programme.
