HIT Hospitality Academy

The HIT Hospitality Academy is a highly practical enrichment programme for hospitality team member apprentices. It enhances their skills and makes them shine in key value-adding areas.

Headed by Jeremy Scorer, Academy Principal, and run by expert trainers at locations across the country, the training programme brings together the very best in hospitality excellence. It provides apprentices with the highest quality training, development and learning in the industry.

What the Hospitality Academy offers

Apprentices spend time with industry experts, absorbing innovative ideas and super-charging their understanding of key areas such as mixology, pairing, service style and presentation. It is a very appropriate, targeted suite of workshops. They deliver content extracted from industry recognised qualifications. We build on the basics, and reinforce the importance of customer skills and service.

In addition to their normal apprenticeship schedule, apprentices will be invited to attend additional programmes, roughly every six to eight weeks.

The programme comprises five exciting workshops which enrich apprentice knowledge:

Customer Service Excellence – delves into the importance of customer service, the need for effective communication, presenting a positive professional image, handling queries and complaints.

Understanding and Serving Wine – focuses on the wide variety of wine styles, wine tasting and pairing, the art of serving wine, the science of storing wines and responsibilities associated with wine.

Beer and Cellar Quality – boosts knowledge of beer basics, dispensing the ‘perfect pint’, cellar management and cleanliness, glassware guidelines and technical tips.

Spirits, Cocktails and the Art of Mixology – polishes presentation skills along with knowledge of spirits, storage and service, and how to prepare perfect cocktails.

Introduction to Barista Skills – ensures your serving staff really know their coffees and teas, supercharges product knowledge, presentation skills and how to use the kit.

Professional Hospitality Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are not just available for school or college leavers but to any chefs already working in the industry who wish to improve their skills, undertake more responsibilities or gain promotion. Staff at all levels and ages can gain new skills with the apprenticeships involving on-site learning and assessment, e-learning and assignments, with frequent on-site visits by our industry experienced trainers.

The intermediate apprenticeship at level 2 is for Hospitality Team Member, the advanced apprenticeship at level 3 is for Supervisors and the Hospitality Manager higher apprenticeship at level 4 is for Managers and Heads of Departments.


Who Can Apply?

The academy works alongside our hospitality apprenticeship programme for any apprentices nominated by their Line Manager to participate in these enhancement activities.

For national or regional hotel, restaurant, contract catering, coffee shop or gastro pub chains, a bespoke programme will be organised to meet the specific skills requirements of that organisation.
