What is an Apprenticeship Agreement?

The Apprenticeship Agreement is a legal agreement that is made between an apprentice and their employer at the start of their apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship Agreement outlines the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship, including the responsibilities of both the apprentice and the employer.

The Apprenticeship Agreement includes information such as:

  • The duration of the apprenticeship
  • Amount of off-the-job training hours
  • The apprenticeship standard the apprentice will work towards
  • The hours the apprentice will work and the pay they will receive
  • The roles and responsibilities of the apprentice and employer
  • The conditions under which the apprenticeship can be terminated.

The Apprenticeship Agreement is a legally binding document and sets out the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship. It is important that both the employer and the apprentice understand and agree to the terms of the agreement before it is signed.

Once the Apprenticeship Agreement has been signed, it forms part of the apprenticeship contract between the apprentice and the employer. The agreement may be reviewed and updated throughout the apprenticeship to reflect any changes in the apprenticeship or the working relationship between the apprentice and the employer.
