HIT Training Ltd Embarks on the Journey to Net Zero with Planet Mark Certification

At HIT Training Ltd, we believe in changing lives – and that includes protecting the planet we all depend on.

We’re proud to announce that HIT Training Ltd and it’s divisions HIT Training, Connect2Care and EDN Training has received its first Planet Mark Business Certification, recognising our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and operating more sustainably. This milestone is part of our wider mission to reach net zero by 2050 and contribute to a more inclusive, low-carbon economy.

But we’re not doing this alone…

As part of our mission to upskill businesses, our employers and learners are on this journey with us. Sustainability and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) run as golden threads through every one of our training programmes. From apprenticeships to leadership development, we’re building the skills and understanding needed to help individuals and businesses make socially responsible choices every day.

Looking ahead, we’re developing sector-specific sustainability learning to support industries like hospitality, care and early years — helping employers add even more social value and impact through the people we train and support.

Our Environmental Impact – Measured and Verified

With the support of Planet Mark, we’ve now measured our carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. For the period April 2023 to March 2024, our total emissions were:

  • 396.4 tCO2e in total
    • Scope 1 (Fleet): 2.4 tCO2e
    • Scope 2 (Electricity): 1.7 tCO2e
    • Scope 3 (Purchased goods, travel, etc.): 392.3 tCO2e — 99% of our total emissions

We’ve already cut our business travel by over 357,000 miles per month, thanks to our blended learning model and a digital-first approach to meetings and support. We also removed all company cars from circulation by the end of 2024, significantly lowering our impact.

Our Commitments for the Future

We’ve set a reduction target of 5% in our Scope 1 and 2 emissions this year and will expand our Scope 3 measurement to include more detailed commuting and supplier activity. Other key actions include:

  • Publishing our carbon reduction plan by summer 2025
  • Launching a supplier sustainability charter in 2025
  • Investing in sustainability for all staff, learners and stakeholders
  • Supporting innovation in green skills within our apprenticeships for our core sectors
  • Continuing to build a culture of sustainability across our business

Contributing More Than Carbon Reductions

As part of our Planet Mark certification, we also measured our total social value for 2023–24 at £475,744, or £1,583 per employee. This includes:

  • 298 weeks of apprenticeship training
  • 219 weeks of skills training for our staff
  • £7,612 in community donations
  • £15,000 of procurement from VCSEs (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises), supporting socially responsible businesses aligned with our values

Through our certification, we also contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly:

  • SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
  • SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
  • SDG 13: Climate Action

A Shared Vision

Our work with Planet Mark marks the beginning, not the end, of our sustainability journey. We’re committed to using this baseline to do more — more action, more impact, and more learning that benefits people, businesses, and the planet.

We’re excited to continue this journey with our people, our learners, and the employers we support.
